TD UNDERCARRIAGE – TAIL-DRAGGER

TGC Taildragger Undercarriage Overview Overview

The taildragger undercarriage, known for its minimal weight and low drag, is the lightest option available among our offerings. However, it does require pilots to have prior experience with taildragger aircraft due to its unique handling characteristics.

Main Gear Construction

The main gear’s legs are constructed from pultruded fiberglass rods, a material chosen for its strength and lightweight properties. The upper end of each leg is securely attached to a fuselage tunnel, while the main-lower hinge is bolted through a pin to the bottom of the fuselage. This design ensures stability and durability during takeoff and landing. The wheels, sized 12×4 inches (300×100 mm), are equipped with mechanical drum brakes, providing reliable stopping power. These brakes are activated via differential heel levers, which are controlled from either fixed or adjustable pedals, depending on the pilot’s preference.

Tail Wheel Assembly

The tail wheel, with a diameter of 100 mm (4 inches), is mounted in a durable steel fork. This fork is connected to the rudder for precise control during ground operations. The spring is securely attached to the bottom of the fuselage with three bolts, providing a robust and reliable connection.

Weight and Standard Equipment

The listed empty weight is applicable to factory-built aircraft delivered with the following standard features:

  • Fixed pedals
  • Basic instrumentation
  • COM Dittel KRT-2 communication system
  • GRS 4/240 rescue system
  • Wheel pants

These components contribute to the overall performance and safety of the aircraft while maintaining its lightweight and low-drag design.
