TGC Undercarriage Overview
The TGC (Tri Gear with Controlled Nose Wheel) undercarriage offers enhanced control and ease of operation, making it an ideal choice for pilots of all experience levels. Unlike the free-castering version, the nose wheel in this configuration is directly controlled by adjustable pedals, allowing for precise steering. This feature simplifies ground handling and makes the aircraft more accessible to less experienced pilots.
Main Gear Design
The main gear in the TGC undercarriage features a single-piece leg made of glass roving/epoxy composite, a material chosen for its strength and lightweight properties. This leg is firmly attached to the reinforced structure at the bottom of the fuselage using four bolts, ensuring a secure and stable setup. The main wheels, sized 12×4 inches (300×100 mm), are equipped with mechanical drum brakes, providing effective braking power. The brakes are conveniently operated by a single lever located on the right side of the cockpit.
Nose Gear Assembly
The nose gear leg is constructed from CrMo steel tubes, known for their durability and strength. The suspension is handled by a glass composite spring, which provides shock absorption and smooth operation. The nose wheel, sized 3.00-4 (260×80 mm), is mounted in a carbon composite fork, offering a lightweight and strong solution for the front of the aircraft.
Drag Reduction and Fairing Options
As with other configurations, all wheels and gear legs can be equipped with wheel pants to reduce aerodynamic drag, thereby enhancing the overall performance of the aircraft.
Weight and Standard Equipment
The listed empty weight is applicable to factory-built airplanes delivered with the following standard equipment:
- Adjustable pedals
- Basic instrumentation
- COM Dittel KRT-2 communication system
- GRS 4/240 rescue system
- Wheel pants
While the TGC undercarriage does add some weight and drag compared to other options, it provides superior ground control and ease of use, making it a practical and user-friendly choice for many pilots.
