TRI GEAR – TG UNDERCARRIAGE

Tri Gear (TG) Undercarriage Overview

The Tri Gear (TG) undercarriage is a simpler, yet robust option among our tri gear configurations. It features a free-castering nose wheel, allowing for easy maneuverability on the ground. Directional control is achieved through a combination of heel brakes and rudder inputs, providing precise handling during taxiing, takeoff, and landing. Depending on pilot preference, the aircraft can be equipped with either fixed or adjustable pedals.

Main Gear Design

The main gear’s design consists of a single-piece leg made of glass roving/epoxy composite. This material choice offers a balance of strength and weight savings. The main gear leg is securely attached to the reinforced structure at the bottom of the fuselage using four bolts, ensuring stability and durability. The main wheels, sized 12×4 inches (300×100 mm), are equipped with mechanical drum brakes, offering reliable braking performance.

Nose Gear Assembly

Nose Gear Assembly

The nose gear features a cantilever leg made of CrMo steel tube, known for its strength and resilience. The nose gear leg supports a free-castering carbon composite fork, which holds the 3.00-4 (260×80 mm) nose wheel.

Drag Reduction and Fairing Options

All wheels and gear legs can be equipped with wheel pants to reduce aerodynamic drag, further enhancing the aircraft’s performance.

Weight and Standard Equipment

The empty weight listed is applicable to factory-built airplanes delivered with the following standard features:

  • Fixed pedals
  • Basic instrumentation
  • COM Dittel KRT-2 communication system
  • GRS 4/240 rescue system
  • Wheel pants

While the TG undercarriage does result in a higher empty weight and increased drag compared to the taildragger option, it offers ease of use and improved ground handling, making it a practical choice for many pilots.
